Abstract:
Researchers examined the relation between income and subjective well-being(SWB)in four lines of research:(a) within-country correlations between income and SWB,(b) changes in SWB among individuals who experience increases or decreases in income,(c) trends in SWB during periods of national economic growth, and(d) between country correlations of average SWB and national wealth.Three theoretical models have been developed to explain the data on income and SWB: The Human Nature hypothesis, the Relative Standards model and the Culture approach.
