Abstract: The present paper is a CP-based analysis of English humor.With a comparison of the three terms adopted to describe the relation between humor production and CP,namely,exploitation,deviation and violation,the author proves that humor results from the speakers violation of CP in their conversation.Next a paradox ensued from the violation is put under scrutiny,namely,how can humor be considered a successful means of communication despite its violation of CPthe very principle that is supposed to ensure success...
