Abstract: Cognitive linguistics holds that spatial metaphor plays an important role in human being s cognition and that many abstract concepts are constructed through spatial metaphor.This paper studies the data of "in" from the British National Corpus.The data in the corpus indicate that "in" are projected onto nine target domains,namely,scope,time,status,manner,process,dress,occupation,material,motive and reason.
