Abstract: Language is both a carrier of culture and an indispensable part of culture. As the footstone of language, vocabulary is a faithful record of cultural developments and changes. Words of color are a unique component of the vocabulary system, which is a very vivid expression of historical and cultural accumulations and vicissitudes. The similarities and differences in cultural meanings between Chinese and Japanese words of color reflect the intercourse and interaction between the two cultures.
