Abstract: On the basis of deciphering Grice's cooperative principle, Zhou Liquan first proposes his own definition of cooperative principle. He then investigates the content and manner of it with speech act theory. Finally he developes the attitude maxim. Zhou Liquan's theoretical achievement inspires us to consider further the maxims of attitude and quantity.
