Abstract: LI Yu's suspicious spirit in his short stories is discussed from the perspective of irony. LI Yu conveyed his doubt about the ghosts and gods always existent in ancient stories and folk stories; he also suspected the romantic love between intellectuals and beauties. He elaborated abnormal affectionate desire with complex mentality. However, with incomplete suspicious spirit, Li Yu would reconcile with the actual world, and his works were beneficially instructive and entertaining.
