Abstract: WANG Zeng-qi was a representative novelist of the Beijing school writers, and he longed for the independence of literature, hoping the perfection of artistic technique. By examining his literary creation for fifty years and the culture of his novels, this dissertation tries to illustrate his role and position in the development of the 20th century Chinese literature.
