Abstract:
Amplifiers are the sort of words that have a heightening effect on the word they modify. They scale upwards from an assumed norm. Such scaling requires that the item or unit to which they apply is gradable. They are divided into MAXIMIZERS, which can denote the upper extreme of the scale, and BOOSTERS, which denote a high degree on the scale.
