Abstract: In James Legge's translation of the Chinese idioms in The Four Books,literal translation method has been mainly used, with liberal translation, amplification, conversion, omission, etc.as secondary ones.His translation is on the whole smooth and faithful to the originals in terms of both content and form except for somewhat redundant and mechanical.
