The Situation and Choices of the Intermediate Parties from the Perspective of the "Current Situation"(1945—1949)

Abstract: After the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, the political situation in China presented a complex pattern of “Three Kingdoms and Five Forces”. The newly-emerged intermediate parties obtained a living space within the binary political structure of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Based on their political positioning as the “third party”, they proposed to follow a “middle path” that was neither “left” nor “right”, which to a certain extent reflected the political demands of the intermediate class and the people’s aspiration for peace. When examining the political course of the intermediate parties after the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression from the perspective of the current situation, their political activities and historical destinies were closely intertwined with the interaction between the political games of the Kuomintang and the Communist Party and the Cold War pattern between the United States and the Soviet Union. The rise and fall of their political influence were not only due to the dual effects of the contradictions between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party and the Far East strategies of the United States and the Soviet Union, but also ultimately dissipated in the intensification of the contradictions between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party. With the changes in the current situation, the differentiation of the intermediate parties and their transformation towards the people's democratic camp were historically inevitable. The “middle path” they advocated, due to its deviation from the reality of the Chinese revolution, ultimately failed just like the moon in the water and the flower in the mirror. The historical process of the circumstances and choices of the intermediate parties after the victory of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression profoundly reveals the objective laws of China’s political development and confirms the historical inevitability of the final victory of the people's democratic revolution led by the Communist Party of China. ”
