Abstract:
The doctor worship of the Three Emperors is a ritual activity in which physicians worship the Three Emperors--Fuxi, Shennong and Huangdi. The doctor worship of the Three Emperors has constructed the image of the Three Emperors, who hold the dual identities of the ancestor of medicine, the teacher of Yao and Shun, and the ancestor of humanities. It embodies various demands of the Chinese nation, such as reverence for ancestors, reverence for life, traceability of tradition, and glory of the industry. Since the Yuan Dynasty, Fuxi, Shennong, and Huangdi have served as the Three Emperors, relying on the Three Emperors Temple and using sacrificial rituals to gain common recognition, respect, and belief among the people, becoming an important cultural bond that maintains various ethnic groups, regions, and social classes.
