Research on the Ancestors of the Min People from Fuguang

Abstract: Since the Song and Yuan dynasties, when tracing the origins of the ancestors of the Min people, there have often been statements such as “their ancestors were born in Fuguang” and “their ancestors migrated to Fujian from Fuguang”, “they entered Fujian from Fuguang”, “they migrated to Fujian from Fuguang”, “they entered Fujian from Fuguang”, and “they entered Fujian from Fuguang”. This has led to the phenomenon that “the ancestors of the Min people came from Fuguang”. The term “Fuguang” here refers to the county name of Guangzhou during the Tang and Song dynasties. The name “Guangzhou” originates from Fuguang Mountain, which used to be located in Guangshan County and is now in Xixian County. It is called Pugong Mountain. The formation of the Fuguang phenomenon by the ancestors of the Min people is directly related to the influx of a large number of Guangzhou people into Min during the late Tang and Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms periods. From the Tang and Song dynasties to the Ming and Qing dynasties, although there were adjustments in the jurisdiction of Guangzhou, Gushi remained a county under Guangzhou, and the people of Gushi were often referred to as Guangzhou people or Fuguang people. It is said that “the ancestors of the Min people came from Fuguang”, which actually means that Gushi is the ancestral land of the Min people.
