Abstract:
The Uilleann Pipe is the most representative traditional instrument in Ireland. Influenced by the Irish Renaissance movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Uilleann Pipe due to its root cultural characteristics, practices “de Britianization” and “self-construction” in all aspects, and has been shaped as a symbol of national image and culture. The Uilleann Pipe and its music, as cultural carriers closely related to Irish past and traditions, have successfully constructed the “Irishness” that Irish people urgently seek in a special historical period, denying the questioning and defamation of Irish culture in colonial discourse; it also showcases the uniqueness and diversity of Irish culture in the context of global integration, achieving cultural boundaries of its own ethnicity and enabling Ireland to stand proudly among the world's nations.
