Abstract:
In order to localize the Perth Empathy Scale developed by Brett et al. and test its reliability, validity and cross-gender equivalence in a group of college students in China, we firstly formed a version of the scale to be tested on the basis of interviews with 36 college students, then formally administered the Chinese version of the scale to 462 college students and carried out the Chinese version of the item and exploratory factor analyses, and finally administered it to 523 college students to test its internal consistency, reliability and equivalence, and compared it with the validity scales-Positive Negative Empathy Scale and Positive Affective Empathy Scale. Finally, the scale was administered to 523 college students to test its internal consistency, reliability, validity and equivalence, and to compare it with the validity scales- Positive Negative Empathy Scale and Positive Affective Empathy Scale. The results showed that the dimensions of the final Chinese version of the Perseus Empathy Scale differed from those of the original version, and the revised Perseus Empathy Scale consisted of three dimensions, namely cognitive empathy, positive affective empathy, and negative affective empathy. The results of the reliability and validity tests met the measurement criteria and were equivalent between men and women, which can be used to measure the level of empathy of college students.
