Abstract:
The phenomenon of Zheshi(这是literally meaning this is) being located at the end of a sentence is quite common in modern Chinese and has attracted academic attention. However, there are still significant differences in understanding among scholars. Zheshiin Chinese is a cross layer structure that originally used to indicate pronouns and judgment verbs, and belongs to the indirect component in syntactic structure. However, in modern Chinese, they are often located at the end of a sentence, gradually becomea fixed word, as an empty component at the end of a sentence. As a virtual element, it has strong selectivity towards sentence structures and presents complex linguistic, semantic, and pragmatic characteristics. From the perspective of its word formation conditions, language style, context, syntactic position, prosody, and frequency of use all play a significant role.
