“杖”“柄(棅)”与“执持”类动词组合的词义共变考察

A Study on the Co-variation of Words Meaning Between Words Zhang(杖), Bing(柄/棅) and Verbs Related to Zhi(执) and Chi(持)

Abstract: Zhang(杖), Bing(柄/棅) are nouns that simply represent objects. After collocation with verbs such as Zhi(执), Chi(持), Wo(握), Zhang(掌) and Lan(揽), the two groups of words have changed in meaning and gradually become abstract. It is obviously lacking sufficient grounds to explain such meaning evolution from the perspective of traditional theory of words meaning extension. According to the view of co-variation of words meaning, the author examines two groups of words in the specific context of Zhang(杖), Bing(柄/棅) and the verbs such as Zhi(执), Chi(持), Wo(握), Zhang(掌), Lan(揽), and explains the mechanism of such words meaning evolution with the help of metaphorical cognitive theory, which can make up for the deficiency of traditional extended theory.
