Abstract:
The metaphysical and instrumental examination of the metaverse is not in line with the transcendental meaning of the concept itself, and it is necessary to return to the value of pragmatism. In clarifying the nature of the metaverse from the perspective of media criticism, it is found that if the metaverse is re-understood in terms of existing knowledge of the world, it still cannot escape the ontological category of play as an extension of incarnate perception, and the perception of technological innovation should be achieved through the practice of human life, which is intuited in art as an epistemological theory, and the practice of human interaction, which demonstrates the “here” of media survivalism in its interaction with the digital state of being. In order to delineate the inner boundaries of the metaverse practice, we have to face the digital “big other” formed by the polarisation of media capital, the fragmentation of subjectivity brought about by the technological intrusion into real life, and the exploitation of value behind information security.
