Abstract:
The well-known Chinese writer of children's literature, MEI Zihan, has recently published a series of short children's novels, called "MEI Zihan's New Novels", such as The Sparrows, Blue Skirt, etc. These new novels not only continue the lyrical colors and consistent narrative innovation, but also continually dig his childhood memories, skillfully blend in the imagination of children, and quietly add in his thorough seeking of humanity and life, social cultures of specific historical times. This paper will discuss the three dimensions of the narrative art and the aesthetics direction of MEI Zihan's New Novels: the family ties, the historical events and the childhood imaginations. In a word, intense self-reflection, thought-provoking historical recollections and philosophical fantasies, all in together constitute a distinct style of narrative aesthetics in MEI Zihan's New Novels and produce deep connotation for contemporary Chinese children's literature.
