Abstract: The protection of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) is a proposition proposed by UNESCO to protect human cultural diversity in order to maintain the overall value and long-term interests of mankind. Musical ICH is an important part and its due meaning. Xinyang is a famous "hometown of singing and dancing", with many musical ICH projects, but the overall level of inheritance and development is limited. There are following main disadvantages:aging inheritors; single content and insufficient artistry in artworks; inadequate publicity and promotion, development and utilization, and not closely integrated with the development of the times; and similar ICH projects in each county working separately which cannot highlight the overall strength of the project. The ways to promote the good inheritance and development of Xinyang musical ICH projects are:to vigorously cultivate inheritors and support performance groups; improve the artistry of traditional songs (plays), create new songs (plays) adapted to the times; use Internet self-media platform propaganda and gradually realize digital preservation; local colleges and universities should undertake the obligation of protection and inheritance of ICH; build a "Xinyang City Cultural Ecology Preservation Area" to comprehensively protect Xinyang musical ICH, so that the people can benefit from it and serve the economic and social development.
