Abstract: MAO Zedong thoughts on model education formed in the practice of the New Democratic Revolution, socialist revolutions and construction of China. It has rich connotation and distinct characteristics, reflecting the unification of nationality and times, individual and social value, advance and mass, scientific and artistic. MAO Zedong thoughts of model education is still of great practical significance to the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics and must be adhered to and pushed forward. Model education in the new era should focus on carrying forward the Chinese spirit, give full play to the role of models as carriers in cultivating and practicing core socialist values, persist in optimizing the model education mechanism by combining inheritance with innovation, and better realize the function of social governance.
