Abstract:
Temporal and aspect in languages belong to different grammatical categories. Temporal locates a situation with respect to the evaluative situation, while aspect concerns the internal structure of situation. Without limitation on verbs, all constituents in a clause have more or less influence on the meaning of temporal and aspect, so they belong to the whole clause. Based on it, when we explore the temporal and aspectual characters in Chinese Resultatives, we illustrate the temporal and aspectual matters of causing event and caused event respectively under the framework of Fauconnier's Mental Space. The research finds that the temporal character of Chinese resultatives realizes the shift of the Focus, and the internal perspective or the external perspective reflects the aspect character of V1 as perfectives and V2 as imperfectives.
