The Relationship Between Loneliness and Internet Fiction Addiction of College Students: The Chain Mediating Roles of Immersion and Escape Motivation

  • To investigate the mediating role of immersion and escape motivation between loneliness and Internet fiction addiction in college students. 835 college students are measured by the Internet Fiction Addiction Scale, Loneliness Scale, Escape Motivation Scale, Immersion Scale for the study. The results show that: (1) There are significant positive correlations among Internet fiction addiction of college students, loneliness, immersion and escape motivation. (2) Both immersion and escape motivation play an independent mediating role between loneliness and the Internet fiction addiction of college students. (3) Immersion and escape motivation play a chain mediating role in the relationship between loneliness and the Internet fiction addiction of college students. Not only does loneliness have a direct effect on college students' addiction to online fiction, it also has an indirect effect on college students' addiction to online fiction through the chain mediating role of immersion and escape motivation.
