Cheng Chung Book Company and the Development of University Textbooks in Republic of China (1931-1949)

  • Cheng Chung Book Company (CCBC) is a publishing organization of the Kuomintang official camp in the Republic of China. Because of the strong support of the national government, the CCBC published a large number of textbooks which promoted the rapid development of modern education in China. In the 1940s, the CCBC had undertaken the main publishing task of "Ministry of Education University Textbooks", and independently edited a set of "University Books". It continued the historical process of the "Nationalization" movement of university textbooks which rose in the 1930s, and makes up for the deficiencies of the "University Series" of the Commercial Press and the "University Books" of the Chung Hwa Book Company. The CCBC has made important contributions to the development of modern university textbooks in China.
