A New Interpretation of Confucius' Idea of “Ci Da Er Yi”

  • In different textual contexts, "Ci" "Wen" "Yan" have different meanings. But when put on the same theoretical platform to reveal their relationships, the three words have common points. In fact, the meaning of the three words are similar to "phrase" "speech" and "discourse". Through studying the two kinds of text which is compiled by Confucius, we can find that "Ci Da Er Yi" actually is a special rhetorical narrative. Actually, different words, phrases and styles imply different meanings and intentions. But they are unified in Confucius' ideals of personality and society.
