The Prosodic Structure of Chinese Ditransitive Syntactic Structure
-
Abstract
According to Construction Grammar, the constructions themselves carry meaning. When there is the conflict between the construction and the verb which instantiates it, the suppression of the construction on the verbal meaning leads to the compatibility between the verb and the construction. But Goldberg doesn't argue the gradience of the suppression. Taking the Chinese ditransitive syntactic structure for example, this thesis explores the prototypical hierarchy of Chinese ditransitive syntactic structure by Halliday & Martin's prosodic structure. Finally the prototypical hierarchy infers the suppression gradience of the construction on the verbal meaning.
