Abstract: It is a misunderstanding that the ancient writing of poems and essays are regarded as calligraphy. In essence, this kind of writing was applied language to convey information and to express thoughts and emotions, whether ancient scholars kept a record of words and events or composed a poem and essay. Judging from motivation of writers and function of writing, this kind of writing was literary text originally. With the rise and development of printing and new media communication, the form of literary text has changed. As a result, the original form, ancient elegant handwriting, is regarded as another kind of aesthetic form-the visual art. Therefore, the so-called contemporary calligraphy art is confined to the appreciation of the beauty of ancient handwriting without reading and comprehending words, let alone composing poems and essays. Since then, a worrying phenomenon is emerging. The culture and literature of calligraphy have gradually declined, while the form aesthetic feeling of calligraphy has become increasingly popular.
